Why I Should Avoid Quizzes

Every week I get a newsletter from from Boundaries.  Drs. Cloud and Townsend relate real life stories of people who struggle with boundaries and give tips on how to have better ones.

One morning I had a few spare moments, so I clicked on a link that said, Take The Boundaries Quiz. I confidently clicked the link and started answering the questions.  Since I had nothing to lose, I answered the questions honestly, though I started getting an uneasy feeling while I was doing it.  A feeling like I wasn’t really making the right choices, even though they were honest ones.

I clicked the submit button and BAM!!!  Score 2.  Two.  Yes, two points.

What does this mean?

If your total score is: 0 – 7
You may lack important boundaries in your life. We can help!

Based on your answers, you tend to let other people dictate your life and your decision-making process. For example, do you fear the disapproval of others more than your own discomfort? Is “peace at any price” your personal motto? Consider how making everyone else happy may be wearing you out. Worse, you might feel like you don’t have a voice in your own life. We can help!

Huh.  Peace at any price.  Interesting.  You may feel differently, but there are times when I don’t really appreciate being called out on my biggest opportunities for self-improvement.  The worst part?  I’ve read Boundaries. Twice. And still – epic fail. Fortunately, I still have a copy on the shelf. Third time’s the charm, right?

Despite my poor score, I’m probably not going to lose any sleep over my lack of boundaries.    That doesn’t mean that I won’t try to do better, it just means that I’m not going to beat myself up over my long list of issues.  There’s nothing wrong with being a work in progress, doing the best I can day by day.

Am I the only one out there who struggles with boundaries?  Take the quiz and let me know- maybe we can start a support group together!
